Cultivation & Care
- Family: Araceae (the arum or aroid family).
- Growth style/Plant Type: An upright, clumping tropical evergreen perennial. It features a thick, cane-like central stem and large, broad leaves with striking variegated patterns of cream, yellow, and green.
- Light: Bright, indirect sunlight. It tolerates moderate-to-low light, but its variegation will become less pronounced. Avoid harsh, direct afternoon sun, which quickly bleaches and burns the large leaves.
- Water: Moderate. Water thoroughly when the top 2 to 3 centimetres of soil feel dry. It is highly sensitive to overwatering; keeping the soil waterlogged will rapidly cause root rot and stem collapse. Reduce watering slightly during the cooler winter months.
- Soil: A loose, well-aerated, fast-draining potting mix. A blend of standard indoor potting soil, perlite, and peat moss works best to retain uniform moisture without becoming waterlogged.
- Humidity/Temperature: Requires moderate to high humidity (50% or above) and thrives in warm temperatures between 18°C and 27°C. It is highly sensitive to the cold; growth slows dramatically below 15°C, and exposure to freezing drafts or frost can kill the plant.
PLANT SIZE: Large (50-60cm)
