Black Cardinal (Philodendron Erubescens)

• Family: Araceae (the Aroid family).

• Growth style/Plant Type: Compact, upright, self-heading hybrid shrub that grows in a bushy clump without vining or climbing.

• Light: Bright, indirect sunlight; avoid direct South African sun to prevent scorched leaves, but ensure adequate light to maintain its signature dark coloring.

• Water: Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out between waterings; reduce watering during the cooler winter months to avoid root rot.

• Soil: A highly aerated, well-draining potting mixture rich in organic matter.

• Humidity/Temperature: Thrives in warm temperatures between 18°C and 29°C (protect from winter temperatures below 13°C and cold drafts). Prefers moderate to high humidity levels of 50% to 70% but adapts well to average indoor household conditions.
